Bareilly (UP), Nov 16: The Bareilly district administration has issued a weapons licence to Jagdish Patani, father of film actress Disha Patani, a senior official said on Sunday.
Jagdish Patani, a retired DSP, had approached the Bareilly District Magistrate after a criminal gang fired at Disha Patani's ancestral home. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had assured him of security following the incident.
Bareilly District Magistrate Avnish Singh said Patani requested a weapons licence after the attack on his residence. Following the completion of all formalities, Patani was granted a revolver/pistol licence.
According to officials, the attack took place on September 12, 2025, when two unidentified men on a motorcycle arrived outside Disha Patani’s ancestral home in Bareilly and opened fire, discharging nearly 10 rounds before speeding away. The incident triggered panic in the neighbourhood and prompted the family to approach police for protection. A case was immediately registered at the Kotwali police station, and multiple teams began tracking the suspects.
The investigation later identified the assailants as Ravindra and Arun, both linked to a criminal gang operating across state borders. On September 17, just five days after the shooting, the duo were killed in an encounter in Ghaziabad by a combined team of the Uttar Pradesh Police’s Special Task Force (STF), the Haryana STF, and the Delhi unit. Officials said the action was part of a coordinated crackdown on groups targeting high-profile individuals.
Bareilly Senior Superintendent of Police Anurag Arya has since confirmed that enhanced security will continue at Jagdish Patani’s residence to ensure the family’s safety.
